During the afternoon, we will be feasting local-style with a walking food tour through the Jewish Ghetto and Trastevere neighborhood.
We will have several hours in both the morning and evening to sightsee with optional activities. This will allow those who have already been to Rome to customize their down time.
Foodie Excursion Description: We'll embark on this small-group Rome food walking tour for an authentic taste of Roman culture. We'll discover how food shapes local life as we explore the Jewish Ghetto and Trastevere. We'll enjoy abundant food and wine tastings, meet locals, and visit historic venues as we are led around town by a passionate guide. About Trastevere: When James Bond parachuted into Rome to land on the Ponte Sisto bridge during the filming of “Spectre,” all eyes were focused on the Tiber River that lazily snakes its way through the center of Rome. Its waters and banks became a movie set for several weeks and so did Trastevere, the neighborhood on the west bank of the river to the south of Vatican City. Trastevere has always attracted visitors to the open-air theater of its characteristic piazzas (Piazza Trilussa, Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere, Piazza San Cosimato), historic churches, and winding, cobblestoned alleys that still retain something of a “small village feel” in the midst of the big city. A guided walking food tour to discover where the locals stop for the best food and wine is a great way to experience this side of Rome (and take care of lunch at the same time!). - We'll sample dishes like gelato, pizza, salami, fried artichokes, and more - We'll get insider tips on where to eat and drink from your guide Sample Menu Items - Starters: pizza bianca with mortadella, pizza rossa, suppli, fried artichoke or zucchini flower, roman salami, mozzarella di bufala, pecorino romano - Main Dishes: cacio e pepe and amatriciana Dessert: gelato artigianale Tour Inclusions: - 15 samples in 5 locations with pastas & fried specialties - 3 quality wine tastings at different spots - English speaking local foodie guide - Best Restaurants guidebook & cookbook for all foodies - VIP restaurant entrances, pre-booked - Small-sized group ________________________

More About This Trip
IS THIS TRIP RIGHT FOR YOU?
-
Italian cuisine often features meat and seafood, so we suggest that vegetarians and vegans carefully review the itinerary and included meals to make sure the trip aligns with their needs and expectations for an enjoyable experience.
-
This trip relies heavily on train travel. While trains are comfortable and equipped with restrooms, they can get quite busy. You’ll need to manage your own luggage when boarding and exiting, so be sure it meets size and weight guidelines—and that you're comfortable carrying it yourself.
GROUP SIZE
-
There is no minimum for this trip to take place. We are going!
-
The maximum guests for our group is 12. This is due to tour group size limitations. If the trip fills up, we will start a waiting list in case of cancellations. We are also open to doing this trip again if the interest is there.
ACTIVITY LEVEL
The activity level for this trip will be easy, as Christie (your group leader) is not a fast walker and has limited endurance. While we can’t guarantee full wheelchair accessibility, we’ve made our plans with accessibility in mind. Unlike many tours, we won't be changing hotels every day or tackling any strenuous hikes as a group. Plus, there’s plenty of free time built into the itinerary, giving everyone the chance to recharge between activities. If you have specific needs or requests, please reach out before registering, and we’ll do our best to ensure the trip is a good fit for you.
ITINERARY VARIATIONS
Our itinerary may be adjusted throughout the year to reflect updates from tour operators or evolving conditions in each destination. As a result, some details in this trip overview may differ from what was initially shared at the time of booking. Once in-country, additional changes might be required due to weather, local events, transportation schedules, holidays, or unforeseen circumstances. Whenever possible, any major adjustments will be communicated with participants in advance. During the trip, travelers will stay informed of any real-time changes to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience.
EMERGENCIES
In the event that Christie (the group leader) is unable to travel, the trip will move forward as planned with an equally passionate coordinator at the helm. We’ve prepared backup plans to handle any unexpected situations and will have local emergency contacts available throughout Italy to ensure everything runs smoothly and safely. Your well-being is our top priority, and we're committed to making this journey seamless and enjoyable, no matter what.

FLIGHTS & TRANSFERS
Am I responsible for booking my own flights & transfers? Since this is a group trip, we will prompt the group when it is time to book these pieces. You will not have to keep track of when this needs to happen. If you select the option of private transfers, we will be arranging group pricing that will be less expensive than the each person booking their own. If you do not opt for private transfers, we will provide the group full instructions and assistance with trains arrangements. For flights, we are happy to assist you. We will be waiving our $50 per person ticketing fee for those on this trip. You are also free to book your own flights. This is a great option if you are using miles or points, as we do not handle those types of bookings. However, we are happy to help you find the best options. ___________________
What airport should I fly into? You should fly into FCO (Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport). ___________________
How do I get to the hotel in Rome? The Leonardo Express train, which runs all day, is a non-stop train ride between the airport and Roma Termini station (near where our hotel will be located). It is only a 32-minute ride and costs 14 EUR per person. ___________________
When should I arrive in Rome? In order to take part in the entire itinerary, you should arrive on October 4, which in most cases means leaving the US in the evening on October 3. ___________________
INSURANCE
What about travel insurance? If we have 10 or more people in our group, we will be able to purchase insurance through a discounted group policy, which will cost $236-431 per person (estimate only, subject to change). If our group is smaller than 10, we will send you a custom travel insurance quote. Coverage cost will be from 3%-15% of your trip costs, depending on your age and level of coverage you choose. Our favorite company is Chubb for the simplicity of working with them, our experience with them paying claims, and the range of coverages they offer. If you would like "cancel for any reason" (CFAR) coverage, please alert us, and we will get you a quote for that type of coverage. Keep in mind that CFAR typically costs about double and it only returns to you 50-75% of your costs if you cancel. If you already have travel insurance or you would prefer to purchase it separately yourself, you will simply send us your proof of coverage. It is not mandatory to purchase your insurance through Toastable Travel. ___________________
Can I decline insurance? For most of the trips we plan, our clients can simply sign a waiver to decline coverage. Because this is an escorted tour, we are requiring everyone to have travel insurance coverage, whether it is purchased through us or on your own. ___________________

Other Common Questions
Passports, Visas, and Entry Requirements
Passports: You’ll need a valid passport to travel internationally and most countries require your passport to have a minimum of 6 months validity, so remember to check the expiry date. We need your passport information to get everything ready for your trip so it’s important that the information on your booking matches your passport exactly. Please take care to provide the correct details. We recommend carrying a copy of the photo page of your passport while travelling and leaving a copy at home with family or friends. ___________________
Visas & Entry Requirements: Many countries require a visa and obtaining the correct visa for your trip and any countries you may transit through is your responsibility. We recommend you check your visa requirements as soon as you have booked your trip. This will ensure you have time to prepare your documents and for your visa application to be processed. You can check the entry requirements for your nationality on your government's foreign travel advisories, consular websites or on our page here: https://tinyurl.com/CheckItalyReq ___________________
Special Needs & Requests
Are there wheelchair accessible hotel rooms available? If you require an accessible room, please let us know as soon as possible, so we can check availability for you immediately. If there are travelers in our group in need of accessibility, that may impact our hotel choices. ___________________
Can this trip accommodate special dietary requests or sober travelers? Because this trip is centered around food, we do not recommend it for those who have strict dietary guidelines or allergies. This trip is also not a great fit for vegetarians and vegans due to the nature of Italian cuisine. If you do not drink alcohol, you will not be alone. Your group leader is a teetotaler who could care less about wine! We will do everything we can to ensure there are alternatives to wine and other alcoholic beverages. If you have allergies or dietary restrictions that you feel will still be compatible with the itinerary, simply let us know what they are, so we can alert our tour operators. ___________________
Miscellaneous Questions & Additional Trip Info
Are payment arrangements / installments available? Yes, we are happy to work with you on a payment plan that fits your budget best, as long as the trip is paid off before the final payment deadline. ___________________
Can you help someone find a roommate? While ultimately it is your responsibility to find a roommate, we are happy to connect you with others who may wish to share. If you register in hopes of finding a roommate, but it doesn't materialize, make sure you are prepared for the full cost of a solo room. ___________________
Will there be a dress code at some points in the itinerary? In general, there are few dress restrictions in Europe. When visiting churches, monasteries or other religious sites modest dress is required - shorts or sleeveless tops may not be permitted, for both men and women. ___________________
Medical & Health Information All travelers should be in good health to fully enjoy the trip. Before booking, carefully review the itinerary and assess your ability to manage your luggage and the physicality of walking during tours. For everyone's safety, if you’re unwell before traveling, stay home and contact us to make alternative arrangements. Consult your doctor for the latest travel health advice and necessary vaccinations. We recommend bringing a first aid kit and any personal medications in their original packaging, as they may be hard to find while traveling. If you carry medication, check for any local restrictions or requirements based on your government’s travel advice. ___________________
Money Matters Spending Money: Each traveler has different spending habits, so plan for things like optional meals, drinks, shopping, activities, and laundry. Read the itinerary and inclusions carefully to understand what’s covered in the trip price and what you may need to pay for on your own. Europe Currency: The Euro (EUR) is used in Italy. You can withdraw cash from ATMs throughout Europe using credit/debit cards. Check with your bank for any foreign transaction fees. You can also get Euro cash before your trip from banks or currency exchange offices. In Italy, look for "bancomat" when withdrawing cash. These ATMs are usually part of banks and offer better exchange rates with fewer fees. Avoid independent ATMs, like those from Euronet, as they tend to charge high fees. Most bank-affiliated ATMs allow you to withdraw up to €250 per day. Budgeting: We recommend budgeting around EUR 250 for meals not included in the trip. This is based on feedback from past travelers, but you may spend more or less. Tipping: Tipping is a common way to show appreciation for good service in many countries, though it is not done nearly as often and as much as in the US. We will make suggestions in the itinerary when tipping makes sense and when it doesn't. When tipping, avoid coins, small notes, or damaged money, as it can be considered disrespectful. Contingency Funds: Unexpected situations like weather, strikes, or other emergencies may require changes to the itinerary. In such emergency circumstances, the additional cost of any necessary itinerary alterations will be covered by you. You should have access to an additional US$500 for such emergencies. This can cover costs like new visas, vaccinations, or non-refundable flights if the itinerary changes. Local currency may be required for these expenses once you’re in the country. ___________________
Safety Most governments provide updated travel advice on safety for international travel. We recommend checking your government’s advice before you leave and ensuring your travel insurance covers all destinations and activities. Tips for Staying Safe: - We highly recommend using a neck wallet or money belt to keep your passport, tickets, cash, and valuables secure. - Leave your jewelry at home—you won’t need it while traveling. - Many hotels offer safety deposit boxes for secure storage of valuables. We also suggest using a lock for your luggage. Optional Activities: Your group leader will be with you for all included activities. During free time, you may want to explore or relax. We can’t guarantee the safety of these activities. Use your judgment when selecting activities, and note that your group leader can amend or cancel parts of the itinerary if safety is a concern. ___________________

You agree to abide by the terms and conditions imposed with respect to your hotel reservations and agree to pay any cancellation or change fees that may be incurred. Tickets of any kind are payable in full and are NON-REFUNDABLE at the time of booking. Airline tickets are completely NONREFUNDABLE and NONEXCHANGEABLE once purchased. Charges for pre-assigned seats in advance of flight time may be subject to additional charges from those carriers. We cannot guarantee seats in specific locations or next to each other. This is strictly based on availability at the time seats are being selected. Airlines are at liberty to change the aircraft and seat assignment at any time. We cannot be held responsible for any changes made by an airline or any additional charges imposed by those airlines for any seats after they have been selected and paid in advance. Responsibilities and Liability We provide a service in arranging accommodation, transportation, sightseeing, admissions, and any other services from third parties as agreed in each itinerary. We shall not be held liable for any injury, damage, loss, accident, delay, or irregularity which may be occasioned by any company or person engaged in conveying the passengers, providing the services, or otherwise in connection therewith, of any hotel owner, manager or employee. We do not own or operate, nor are we an agent of any of the Suppliers which will provide goods and services for the trip or any option which may be available in connection with the trip. You agree to seek remedies directly with the Supplier and not hold us liable in the event of negligence, loss, injury, delay or expense which results directly or indirectly from any action or omission, whether negligent, criminal or otherwise, of any entity providing goods and services for the trip or any available option. You also agree not to hold us liable for circumstances beyond our control (e.g. Force Majeure, terrorism, war, or acts of God). We accept no responsibility for losses or extra cost due to delays, schedule changes, or cancellations in train, bus, ship, airlines or other land, lake or river services, medical issues, bad weather/climate conditions, war, terrorist acts, strikes, quarantine, luggage delay or loss, or other causes. In the event an airline or travel supplier declares bankruptcy, it is not obligated to transport you or to provide refunds. Money given to our Agency immediately becomes the property of the airline or travel supplier as required by law. We are not allowed to provide refunds for suppliers who have declared bankruptcy. If an airline or travel supplier declares bankruptcy, it might continue services or stop completely. Other airlines or travel suppliers may, but do not have to, provide alternative services.
